Special Collection covering novel advances and insights into epigenetic mechanisms in learning and memory

Learning & Memory is inviting original research submissions for a Special Collection covering novel advances and insights into epigenetic mechanisms in learning and memory. This Special Collection will be guest edited by Dr. Farah Lubin, Professor of Neurobiology, University of Alabama at Birmingham.

This Special Collection will examine how chemical modifications to DNA, histone proteins, and regulatory noncoding RNA molecules influence transcriptional programs necessary for memory encoding, storage, and retrieval, how these processes shift with aging or disease, and how such insights may guide strategies to enhance or restore memory function.

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

  • Understanding how chromatin architecture shapes learning and memory
  • Epigenetic signatures that define engram cells
  • Epigenetic influences on memory in aging and disease
  • How experience and environment reshape the epigenome
  • Mechanisms of epigenetic pharmacological agents that selectively modify pathological memory traces
  • Therapeutic strategies that modify epigenetic states to enhance or restore memory

Authors are encouraged to submit manuscripts by October 30th, 2026. All submissions will be editorially reviewed for consideration in the Special Collection and will be subject to the journal’s standard peer-review process and publication policies.
